Instead of blending / dyeing my own colours, I rummaged through my wool stash for the closest colours I could find to pallet of colours above:
I decided to make something small, a phone case for an iphone I haven't even bought yet. I know, I'm a little bit mad but when I get an idea in my head I rarely have the patience to be sensible.
Keeping to the flower theme of the original photo, I created a resist based on phone dimensions I found on the web and started laying out my wools and found some scarlet cotton in my scrap bag along with some pieces of hand-dyed prefelt that I thought would work well with this colour pallet (another deviation from the challenge brief).
This is the nearly finished case, I just need to trim the pocket where the phone will sit, but I will wait for the phone to arrive before I do that final step, even I'm not that brave/stupid/reckless (delete as appropriate).

I'm already thinking about adding some machine embroidery to the front flap....
It's great, I think the embroidery will really finish it off :-) I really do need to try out using a colour generator! x
ReplyDeleteThank you Sharo. Do have a play with the generators, they are so easy, the only downside is that it is far too easy to spend all day just feeding photos into them!
DeleteWe didn't have any hard and fast rules, :-) Besides rules are meant to be broken, right? It's always good to improvise especially when you're short on time. The case is lovely. Enjoy your new phone.

DeleteIt's a lovely case! Machine embroidery would look good, but the felt stands just as well on its own.
ReplyDeleteThe studio challenges are great because they give us a 'jump start' and no-one minds if the brief is not followed exactly - just so long as we're inspired by them.

DeleteGreat case - and didn't you already do a challenge piece that we put on the Felting and Fiber Studio blog. The photo was of the fish? So you're really good, 2 pieces for the challenge :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Ruth, yes I made a wall hanging for my first challenge piece, to be honest, knowing I had already completed the challenge gave me the freedom to be "naughty" and break the rules for this piece.
